Bug Description

"evolution-data-server" had to be installed for Thunderbird 15 after upgrade to be executable,
otherwise Thunderbird crashed at runtime.

This happened after installing all (K)ubuntu updates from 2012-08-16. The distribution is "Kubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal".

There was a glib - error reported. Some dbus - error about not accessable evolution settings.
After installing "evolution-data-server-common". The error message was more elaborate, but the error persisted.
After installing "evolution-data-server" and restarting Thunderbird, the error was gone.

I uninstalled "evolution-data-server-common" and "evolution-data-server" afterwards.

The error is gone, it seems to me that the bug was caused by the automatic upgrade to Thundrbird 15.

No, the error is persistent:

without packages "evolution-data-server-common" and "evolution-data-server" you will
get this error at the command line:

(thunderbird:2883): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.gnome.Evolution.DefaultSources' is not installed
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

After installing "evolution-data-server-common" you will get this error:

(thunderbird:3118): e-data-server-ERROR **: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gnome.evolution.dataserver.Sources0: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: Failed to execute program /usr/lib/evolution/evolution-source-registry: Success
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

So you need to install the package "evolution-data-server"!

Thunderbird 15 has an undocumented runtime-dependency to "evolution-data-server"!

Damn, I don't want "Evolution"!

On Lubuntu I have methodically isolated the cause of *my* problem to the following plugin: 'EDS Contact Integration'. Thing is, it's a default plugin.

When I enable this plugin tbird starts but the instant I click on a folder it crashes. Sometimes I need to click on a few folders (but so far, never more than 3. I'm not sure why this can be). When I disable it this behaviour is not present, even after much clicking.

I was brought here due to my original bug (bug #1061958) being made a duplicate of this one. That might not be correct.

This also, for me, just started happening within the last 24 hours.
