Bug Description

How to reproduce the bug:
1. Open two applications (in this example, Terminal and Nautilus). They can be maximized, snapped to side, or just free-floating. Doesn't matter.
2. Click on Terminal so that it has focus.
3. Press ALT-TAB for long enough (long enough that the icon switcher shows up for just a moment, but not long enough to move from one icon to another). It also might only happen sometimes. It's hard to reproduce on purpose, but happens often.

What happens:
The switch of focus to Nautilus doesn't happen. Both windows LOSE focus, and so NO window has focus (keybindings stop working and the menu bar is empty).

What should happen:
Nautilus should get focus.

Remark 1:
This happens on other applications, too. I noticed it also with {Chrome and Netbeans}, {Nautilus and Lyx + other open apps}.

Is this the only keyboard shortcut not working? Try this first and see if it fixes it:

Go to System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager, and under Window Management enable Static Application Switcher (if prompted, click the Enable Compiz Library Toolbox button to proceed).

My impression is, that's not what androith is describing. I think bug 996480 is about keyboard shortcuts not being active. In this report, Alt-Tab takes an action, but isn't working correctly. As in other reports about window switching in Unity, like bug 868528 or bug 1035668. I think there are other open examples, but I couldn't quickly dig them up. Thanks.

Oh, and I forgot to say -- bug 996480 is about the gnome fallback session; this report is about Unity. So I'll re-open this. I'm not marking it as confirmed, myself, 'cause I can't seem to reproduce quite this case, where neither window ends up focused. Thanks.

The bug I reported here is different than all of those. In mine, when you press ALT-TAB, you just get NOTHING selected. Very annoying when you're in the groove quickly switching from editor to browser.
