HTD should present a meaningful error if the location is not a string

Bug Description

Hi

Currently if the location for:
htd.create
htd.connect

Is not a string then the user is presented with the error message below, instead HTD should present a more meaningful error message.

AttributeError: 'bool' object has no attribute 'startswith'
