Restarting nova-compute removes ip packet filters

RHEL 6.3 EPEL openstack packages

restarting nova-compute clears the iptables filters allowing traffic to communicate with instances

[root@agent-nova-compute1 nova]# iptables -L -n -v | grep -B 2 br100
Chain nova-compute-FORWARD (1 references)
 pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination

[root@agent-nova-compute1 nova]# iptables -L -n -v | grep -B 2 br100
[root@agent-nova-compute1 nova]#

they remain like this until another vm is started on this compute node.

    Adding networking rules to vm's on compute service startup

    Fixes bug 1027105

    Restarting nova-compute resulted in a new empty iptables chain
    "nova-compute-FORWARD" being create. This commit adds a single
    call to plug_vifs which ensures the appropriate filters (and
    bridge) are present on service startup.

Please find the attached test log from the Ubuntu Server Team's CI infrastructure. As part of the verification process for this bug, Nova has been deployed and configured across multiple nodes using precise-proposed as an installation source. After successful bring-up and configuration of the cluster, a number of exercises and smoke tests have be invoked to ensure the updated package did not introduce any regressions. A number of test iterations were carried out to catch any possible transient errors.
