Bug Description

Every now and then, cron sends me this error:

Subject: Cron <munin@dev> if [ -x /usr/bin/munin-cron ]; then /usr/bin/munin-cron; fi

[ERROR] Ran out of children: No child processes
 at /usr/share/perl5/Munin/Master/HTMLOld.pm line 868

I've received about 5 of these mails since munin was installed three weeks ago. Currently, there are three nodes munin connects to.

Thanks for the bug report, and the link. The reasoning seems plausible.

Marking this bug confirmed based on the upstream report, and high priority because it will impede runs with no workaround.

Attaching a debdiff that incorporates the patch in the upstream bug report. I've tested it on my servers for about 24h now, and it seems to work perfectly. I haven't got a single error message from munin, while normally I get 2-5 of them each day.

The attachment "munin_1.4.6-3ubuntu3.2.debdiff" of this bug report has been identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff. The ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. In the event that this is in fact not a patch you can resolve this situation by removing the tag 'patch' from the bug report and editing the attachment so that it is not flagged as a patch. Additionally, if you are member of the ubuntu-sponsors team please also unsubscribe the team from this bug report.

Yes, these kind of fixes can be backported. It's just a matter of someone doing the extra paperwork required for an stable release update [1].
