I don't think this qualifies as important news that all our users should see. Also, while messages like this absolutely meet the same (lack of) formality standard that our grass-roots community does, I'm not sure that all our professional users/customers want to be told to go hug people, and there are users of religions and backgrounds that would find the suggestion to go drink a beer to be downright insulting.

I could increase the professionalism, and remove the beer sentence to make it more multicultural. Or other suggestions for the message are welcome.
But I do think that this event is important for all our users and customers, even the professional ones. We need to highlight more often that there's a huge community behind the OS, and the only way to make that community grow is to make the members feel appreciated. I think this message will help us a little on both accounts.

I proposed this MP because it fits within one of the motivations for the motd that Dustin mentioned:
"And sometimes, it's just a matter of presenting a fun fact. News from the world of Ubuntu. Or even your own IT department."

Good catch Adam. Perhaps this language would be a better way to share
the news:

 * Ubuntu Community Appreciation Day
   On November 20th we celebrate the diverse community talents that
complement
   Canonical's work on Ubuntu and make it so much more interesting than
just an
   enterprise Linux. Together, we make Ubuntu amazing.

I'll remain forever dubious that this is an appropriate use of the motd (but that's a discussion that doesn't belong in this MP), but if we're going to use it to push out "fun facts" and the like, I'm definitely much more comfortable with Mark's proposed wording.

works for me :)
You are toning down a lot on the "fun fact" part that Dustin seemed to welcome, but I will still be just as happy to see this new message published. And it's better that now I don't see a chance to offend anyone.

I've updated the message. I marked this MR as work in progress because I want to use the ubu.one link shortener, but haven't received a reply on how to do that. I'll have it ready again on Monday.

Any other suggestions for the message will be appreciated.

pura vida.
